Entangled in a production of Chekov’s Uncle Vanya, tortured thespian Paul has a problem. When he reads an article in The New Yorker about putting your soul into cold storage, it seems like a good idea. Trouble is, the removal of his pea-like 21 grams makes him much happier… Those who adored The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind may recognise a Charlie Kaufman-like scenario, in which the business of tampering with the inner workings of the human psyche leads to unexpected difficulties. The plot complexities are increased by the fact that Paul Giamatti plays himself, with the bonus of Emily Watson and David Strathairn. In her feature debut writer/director Sophie Barthes pulls off a deliciously wry comedy, which owes as much to Woody Allen and Buñuel as Charlie K. PR/CB
