Delta
In a remotepart of Eastern Europe, a man walks into a bar. Where he has come from or whathas brought him are not apparent, save that he is coming home and that heintends to stay. The threads of the story are simple and few: he meets hishalf-sister and decides to construct a house in the midstream of the riverdelta. These two moments provide the film's momentum; each represents achallenge to two systems - society and nature - and together they propel theman towards his destiny with the inevitability of a Greek tragedy. This is afilm of few words and of simple, determined actions; it is also a work in whichthe setting is absolutely integral to the narrative. The tranquil beauty andthe inexorable flow of the delta's waters are captured magnificently by MátyásErdély's cinematography. AG
