Ever heard of Hunter S. Thompson? The author of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (filmed by Terry Gilliam), he was the most brilliant, outrageous and influential journalist of the ‘60s and ‘70s: a twisted genius. This in-your-face documentary from Alex Gibney (Enron, Taxi To The Darkside) examines the great practitioner of ‘gonzo' journalism in the context of the seminal events of his time - Kent State, Hell's Angels, Nixon's re-election campaign. Thompson was a boozehound who loved guns, endlessly womanised and never met a deadline for Rolling Stone magazine but was also a great writer in the Swiftian mode. This film does justice to his wonderfully wacky brilliance. PR
