Kundel is a 14 year-old boy nicknamed “Mongrel” who, rejected by his very troubled mother, becomes a runaway and has to learn to fend for himself. Despite very difficult conditions the outcast remains unbroken in spirit and refuses to blame anyone for his misfortune, while planning his escape to a better life in the ruins of an old barge. Along the way he meets a young girl who shows him the affection that his mother never could and demonstrates that he is no longer alone in this world. Featuring an excellent and compelling performance from the child actor (Jagielski) the film is based upon a true story and ably brought to the screen by award-winning Kedzierzawska, one of Poland’s most talented directors working today.
