Invention at Invention

Composer, performer, songwriter and percussionist Geoff Smith is acknowledged both as a world-leading virtuoso and a unique innovator and pioneer of the hammered dulcimer. For his second appearance at this year's festival Geoff brings his amazing musical diversity to Invention Studios for a unique event in which he will perform a special live set, improvise, enlighten, astonish and discuss his work, not only as composer and performer but also as instrument designer and inventor. Inventiveness is his trademark, and several of the instruments he has developed himself over the years will feature, including his microtonal ‘fluid dulcimer' and the invention of the ‘Fluid Piano' - which, in the words of the Guardian, is ‘the musical equivalent of splitting the atom'.
