The Sixteenth Bath Film Festival
Meet
Louisa Fairclough’s Meet, a suspended four-screen installation, investigates the traditions of British culture and heritage. The piece resonates strongly with issues surrounding the nation’s interest in class, ritual and identity. Commissioned by Picture This Small Wonders scheme and supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation; the 4 minute looped film was originally shot on 16mm which was then re-shot digitally from the now antiquated ‘Steenbeck’ system of 16mm film editing. This dual filming process gives the installation a beautiful, shimmering, ethereal quality. Meet is installed at The Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institute’s Reception Gallery for the duration of the Bath Film Festival. There will be an opening reception along with a Q&A with artist Louisa Fairclough and ROOM gallery director Sandie Macrae on Saturday 28 October. The Q&A begins at 6:30pm with doors opening at 5:45pm for a drinks reception.
