Savage Grace
Based on actual events, Savage Grace tells the story of the heir to the fortune of the inventor of Bakelite, the first commercially manufactured plastic and blessed nowadays with a rosy, cosy image. Nothing cosy rosy in the fabulously rich, post-war New York lives of Brooks Baekeland and his vaultingly ambitious, high-living wife Barbara Daly. When her vulgar social climbing and public histrionics eventually estrange the couple, she tries to fill the void of lovelessness with a cloying affection for their only son Anthony, who becomes the focus for all her aspirations. The scene is set for the tragic outcome which traumatised New York society. Julianne Moore as the doomed Barbara delivers a riveting performance in this ‘...gripping, coldly brilliant and tremendously acted movie.' - The Guardian. CB
