Vera Ngassa and Beatrice Ntuba are magistrates in a remote part of Cameroon where the patriarchy has been dominant for a very long time. Despite established equal rights laws, dispensing justice in a society in which men often regard licence to rape as their natural right is fraught with difficulties. With enormous courage, determination and frequent hilarity these two women fight to counteract the acceptance of domestic violence, while still coming down hard on female transgressors. Many documentaries tell us what is wrong in the world, so it’s a refreshing treat to find one in which some progress is being made. The film is a small gleaming beacon in a dark world. PR/CB
