A surreal and taboo-trashing tale of three generations of a remarkable family - one pees fire, one’s a champion speed-eater, and the third an animal-stuffer whose ambition is autotaxidermy! Palfi’s follow-up to Hukkle is a very different film, besides a common fascination with the grotesqueries that lie barely concealed by the ordinariness of folk. Taxidermia - alternatively appalling, inventive, hilarious, and perhaps a little revolting for more sensitive souls - is a family saga which catalogues a set of attributes so extreme that the whole thing can only be interpreted as a surreal celebration of the burgeoning physicality of human being. So determinedly excessive that one simply has to accept the film on its own terms, Taxidermia perhaps initiates a new sub-genre – ‘Corporealism’! CB
