Lars Von Trier, enfant terrible of Danish cinema, returns with a change of genre - a comedy. Reassuringly, all the trademark irony and wickedness persist as he presents the tale of Ravn, an IT company manager who has invented an overseas boss in order to pass the buck on unpopular decisions. When a prospective buyer insists on negotiation with the elusive man in charge, Ravn comes up with a perfect (read ‘desperate') solution - he hires an actor to play the part. Naturally, the thespian's over-acting creates chaos. With this piece Von Trier continues to experiment but the departure this time is playing it straight. And it all comes together beautifully, reinforcing the Dane's well-deserved status as a master European director. Von Trier aficionados and others will watch and enjoy. DR
