Polish artist Wilhelm Sasnal is one of the contemporary art world's most exciting young artists. Predominantly a painter, his style is varied and hard to pin down, moving from figuration to abstraction and then onto film and music. He was the 2006 winner of the Vincent van Gogh Biennial Award for Contemporary Art in Europe 2006. Earlier this year the Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Visual Art (Gi) commissioned Sasnal to make a piece of work which reflected some aspect of the city of Glasgow. Sasnal’s controversial Gi commission The Other Church is a short film, which engages broadly with the issue of the vulnerability and naivety of immigrants and in particular the work directly references the brutal murder of Angelika Kluk, whose body was found under the floorboards of Glasgow’s Saint Patrick’s Church in 2006. The Other Church comes directly to Bath after the Glasgow Gi exhibition. EH
