Kirby Dick was so frustrated by the secrecy of the MPAA - who classify all American films - that he hired private detectives to track down the anonymous raters! The resulting film contains much germane comment from filmmakers as diverse as Kevin Smith (Clerks) and Matt Stone (South Park) to Atom Egoyan (Where The Truth Lies), and questions the hypocrisy of a body that slaps a dreaded NC-17 rating on a film featuring the portrayal of sex, yet turns a blind eye to graphic violence. “An impassioned piece of activist filmmaking that’s as persuasive and entertaining as it is disturbing” (Los Angeles Times).
